In the batter's box now.......

Hard to believe that my trip starts in just over a week! Time has flown and I am starting to get really excited about it! One of the things that I was most concerned about was how to find places to volunteer but I found a great website called volunteermatch.com and it's been wonderful! So far I have lined up two opportunities in Madison, Wisconsin - one with a group called the West Madison Senior Coalition and the other with Holy Wisdom Monastery, where I will also be staying overnight! I am working on several others and have e-mails out, but other things that are already slated are reading to 1st graders at Prairie Lane Elementary in Kenosha, WI; working with a dog rescue group in Des Moines, Iowa, and another senior project in Lincoln, Nebraska! Looks like another possibility might be doing some babysitting at a home for young pregnant women in St. Louis, Missouri.

So the journey has begun before the key is even turned. I can honestly say that I have been amazed the amount of opportunities out there when you just look. I thought this would be the hardest part but I can see already that I won't have enough time to do it all!

Now to work on this blog..... I am new to all of this, so bear with me. I had wanted to add a song of the day each day since music is a big part of my life, but seem to have run into too many road block for that, so will let that one go. If anyone reading this has any ideas on changes/additions/subtractions to this blog - please feel free to let me know.

I would love to hear from you all during this coming month on the road. While I know it will be full and fulfilling, I know there will be moments when I long for home and familiar faces and places. Keep in touch!
